Tom Fegely
Tom Fegely has made his full-time living as an outdoor writer, photographer and broadcaster since 1976 when he accepted a position as outdoors editor of The Morning Call in Allentown, Pennsylvania. From 1976 until his retirement in 2002 his articles were published in newspapers nationwide via the Associated Press.
Prior to 1976 he taught environmental education and ecology in the public schools for 14 years. He holds a B.S. degree from Lock Haven University and received an M.S. in education and the biological sciences from Kutztown University.
Tom produced and hosted "Call of the Outdoors," on NBC-affiliate WGAL-TV in Lancaster from 1980 to 1987 and "Escape to the Outdoors," a syndicated daily radio show which aired on 375 stations in the eastern U.S. He has also hosted and/or written seven deer, turkey and African hunting videos for King Video Adventures.
Tom is past president of the Pennsylvania Outdoor Writers Association, former board member of the Outdoor Writers Association of America and cornerstone member of the Professional Outdoor Media Association.
He currently serves on the masthead of Buckmasters, Whitetail News and North American Hunter and as a columnist for Outdoor Adventurer. He has also authored 10 books (five for children). His most recent title, A Guide to Hunting Pennsylvania Turkeys, follows A Guide to Hunting Pennsylvania Whitetails published in 1994 with a second edition in 2000.
Tom has received more than 100 writing, photography and broadcasting awards over the years, including the cherished Associated Press Enterprise Award four times. He was named the “Communicator of the Year” by the National Wild Turkey Federation in 2001 and was inducted into the Pennsylvania Turkey Hunters Hall of Fame in 1991.

Betty Lou Fegely
Betty Lou Fegely is a full-time writer and photographer with bylines and photo credits in numerous magazines, encyclopedias and books. She is currently a columnist for Outdoor Adventurer.
She holds a B.S. degree in education from Kutztown University and taught elementary school for 12 years prior to entering the field of outdoor communications.
Betty Lou has served in an advisory capacity within the hunting industry on clothing, boots, optics, wild game cooking and archery. She has presented specialty seminars on “Women in the Outdoors” and “Family Participation in the Outdoors”.
She also served on the boards of the Pennsylvania Outdoor Writers Association, Outdoor Writers Association of America, and the American Crossbow Federation and was one of the 10 founding directors of the Professional Outdoor Media Association (POMA), of which she is a past president and chairman of the board.
Together, Betty Lou and Tom have hunted, fished and photographed in Africa, Canada, Bulgaria, 36 U.S. states, including Alaska and four Canadian provinces.
They have raised six children and are grandparents to eight. The couple now lives in Walnutport, Pennsylvania, on 34 hillside acres along with an abundance of deer, turkeys and birdlife. |
